Leeds United won their first Championship with 67 points, a new record. Their 2 defeats was the fewest for a 22 club top division.

Queens Park Rangers made their top division debut but were relagated.

Arsenal lost their second consecutive League Cup final. Swindon Town became the second third level club to win a major trophy. They also gained promotion.

Newcastle United won the Fairs Cup. They had qualified for it by finishing 10th in the League.

Leicester City were losing FA Cup finalists for the fourth time, a record for a club who had never won the trophy. They were also relegated.
