History (England)

Manchester United won a record-equalling 7th Championship.

Blackpool were relegated after 23 consecutive seasons in the top division. Southampton made their first appearance in the top division.

Tottenham Hotspur won the FA Cup against Chelsea. This was the first all-London final.

The League Cup final was moved to a single game at Wembley with a place in the Fairs Cup for the winners if they are a top division club. Queens Park Rangers won the final 3-2 after being 0-2 down, becoming the first third level club to win a major trophy.

History (Europe)

The Scottish club, Celtic, became the first UK club to win the European Cup.

They also won their domestic treble of League Championship, Scottish Cup and League Cup. They became the first European club to win the Treble (Domestic League and Cup double plus the European Cup). They remain the only European club to complete the Quadruple (Domestic Treble plus European Cup).
