History

Because of World War II there was no official league programs for seasons 1940 to 1946.

The early rounds of the FA Cup were played on a two-leg basis. Charlton Athletic are the only club to reach an FA Cup final after losing in an earlier round. In the 3rd round, they lost 1 - 2 to Fulham in the first leg but won the second leg 3 - 1, winning the tie on aggregate. The Cup was won by Derby County, winning their first trophy.
