In the final matches of the season, Cardiff City were playing at Birmingham. In the last minute of the game, Cardiff City were awarded a penalty. This was missed and the game ended 0 - 0. Had they won they would have been Champions.

On the same day, Huddersfield Town beat Nottinham Forest 3 - 0. and Huddersfield Town were Champions by goal average, the first club to do this.

Chelsea were relegated on goal average, the third club to suffer this fate.

West Ham United made their first appearance in the top division.
