Stoke City reach their first FA Cup final.

Because Wembley Stadium is being used for the European Cup Final, the FA Cup final takes place on an earlier Saturday than normal when there are are League matches playing the same day. Manchester United get a 1 - 1 draw at Blackburn Rovers to become League Champions a few hours before Manchester City win the FA Cup for a unique Manchester double.

Manchester United's League Championship is a record 19th.

Manchester United complete a sequence of nine consecutive sesons reaching at least one cup final. They also completed five consecutive trophy winning seasons. Their 22 consecutive seasons in Europe sets a new record.

Manchester City's FA Cup win is their first trophy for 35 years.

Birmingham City win the League Cup, their first trophy for 48 years. They also get relegated making them the second club to win a trophy and go down. The also become only the second club to qualify for Europe and be relegated.

On the final day of the season five clubs were separated by a single point with West Ham United already relegated. Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic won to stay up while Blackpool and Birmingham City lost to go down. Wolverhampton Wanderers lost 2 - 3 at home but survived.
