History

West Ham United won the Cup Winners Cup becoming the second English club to win a European trophy.

Leeds United missed out on the League and FA Cup double in their first season back in the top division. They lost the Championship to Manchester United on goal average and the FA Cup to Liverpool in Extra Time. It was Liverpool's first win in the FA Cup.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were relegated after 26 consecutive seasons in the top division.
