Sunderland needed to win at Newcastle United to become Champions. They lost 0 - 1 to give the League to Wednesday who had lost 11 times (a record for a Championship winning team). Aston Villa, who won their last five games, finished second.

Bury's 6 - 0 victory set a record winning margin in an FA Cup final not equalled till 2019. Their two final appearances yielded a 10 - 0 aggregate score. They became the second club to win the FA Cup without conceding a goal in any round. This was Derby County's third defeat in the FA Cup final.
