History
The League was so popular that it was expanded to 14 clubs. Stoke and Darwen were admitted but the latter were voted out after one season.
During the season Preston North End and Sunderland won 13 consecutive matches, a record that would not be equalled until 2002. Sunderland won the Championship, their first trophy.
